Just got this info today
In 2004 alone, India produced more than 350,000 world-class engineers, and China graduated 600,000, according to BusinessWeek.
Egypt on the other hand, hardly graduate 1000 engineers.

That's right but...
I heard something like that before, exactly in a descussion wether the egyption marktet got satisfied or not from software engineers. Someone approx. calculated # of graduated from FCIs + AUC + GUC + .. and he reached that the market will got satisfied within 5 or 6 years!!
It is not a good thing to reach 600,000 graduates as our Market will not accept it.

+1 Aly
Aly, I couldn't agree more. I am surprised by Amr's comment on Indian such called 'world-class engineers'. To tell you the truth, I have worked with Indians on many projects and in different countries, and I have never seen such level of unskilled IT individuals. I noticed that most Indians working at high level positions are educated or completed their education outside India.

Somebody told me that very skilled Indeains are not in the Arab or in Europ, they are the army of USA IT companies, like Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, etc..
low skilled and moderated ones are in Arab and Europ market.

HUMANS
No doubt Amr, HUMANS are the most valuable asset in the IT and S/W industry.
But please, ask yourself what will be the benefit from a huge number of un-qualified graduates !!!
Ask yourself, how the current graduates are guided, to where they are directed and what is the vision they have?
I think we don't need 600,000 of best qualified and creative graduates, we just need few of them to lead, guide and create the vision for the rest ...

People, What do you think
People, What do you think about the program of the Government + IBM & Microsoft to train 1000's of Engineers?
Do you think that this program is successful and produce well qualified Engineers?
IMO, This program is planned well but executed by .... , It is just a business.
About India, I didn't meet Any Genius Indian, but i found many of them a bit coders. I believe that there are thousands of Indian lead the software industry but not all of them. Also Indian's English is horrible comparing with university graduate in Egypt. So that Egypt is the right place for call centers.
IMO, I prefer to have 1000 qualified graduate annually rather than 10000 of not-qualified Engineers.
Egyptian Engineer salary less than Indian by 25% AFAIK. Also Indian's English is horrible comparing with university graduate in Egypt.

Problem Source
In any kind of industry, there are 3 types of people:
*Technical Workers (coders)
*Design Engineers
*Managers
FCI and alike, are graduating the middel layer, BA faculties are graduationg the third layer, the first layer are supposed to be produced by instituets and such a governmental programs.
The problem comes when a first layer ppl think (or was thaught to think like that) that they are responsible for the work of the middel layer, this leads to a disasters in software desgin.
the same problem also arised when the 2nd layer ppl act in the role of the third layer ppl wihtout any study or education, this leads to a disasters in management.
